Hush Privacy Policy

Effective 7 October 2026

Hush is a journal that keeps everything on your device. This policy says what that means in practice.

What we collect

Nothing. Hush has no accounts, no server of its own, no analytics and no third-party software. We never see your pages, your moods, your conversations with the companion, or anything else you put in Hush.

The companion

The companion is a language model that runs entirely on your iPhone or iPad. When you allow it to read your pages, that reading happens on your device and nothing is sent anywhere. Everything the companion does with your writing is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off again at any time in Settings.

The model itself is downloaded once from Apple’s servers after you finish setting up Hush. That download is handled by Apple and is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

Purchases

Purchases are made through Apple. We receive no payment details and no personal information from a purchase, only Apple’s confirmation that it happened.

Hush Plus: Encrypted Sync

If you subscribe to Hush Plus and turn on Encrypted Sync, your journal is stored in your own private iCloud database so your iPhone and iPad can share it. It is encrypted on your device before it is stored, with a key that exists only on your devices. We cannot read it, and neither can anyone without your devices and your recovery key. iCloud storage is provided by Apple under Apple’s terms.

Premium content packs (themes, fonts, worlds and stationery) are downloaded from Apple’s servers in the same way as the model.

Backups

Backups you export from Hush are files on your device. Where you keep them, and who you share them with, is up to you.

Crisis resources

If a page contains language that suggests you may be in danger, Hush shows fixed, human-written text and a list of help lines for your region. This check runs on your device. Nothing about it is sent anywhere, and no one is notified. The full protocol is on The AI in Hush.

Apple’s own statistics

If you have opted in on your device, Apple may share aggregated crash and usage statistics with us. These contain no journal content and cannot identify you.

Children

Hush is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Because Hush collects nothing, we have no way to notify you directly.
